What is Varithena™ Microfoam Ablation?

What is Varithena™ Microfoam Ablation?

This leading-edge procedure uses a specially formulated microfoam that allows our specialists to relieve your symptoms without the use of heat or tumescent. Varithena™ microfoam ablation not only treats enlarged veins but can also be used to treat tortuous or twisted veins and straight veins. This minimally invasive procedure typically takes less than an hour to complete and requires minimal downtime and a short recovery period.

What to Expect During Varithena™ Microfoam Ablation

Varithena™ microfoam ablation will be performed at a StrideCare location by one of our board-certified vein specialists. Before the microfoam ablation begins, a topical or local anesthetic may be applied to the patient’s treatment area. This is to ensure they remain as comfortable as possible throughout their treatment. Once numb, the specialist will begin injecting the specialized microfoam into the affected veins using a small needle or cannula. As little as three injections will need to be made into the veins in order to see results.

What to Expect After Varithena™ Microfoam Ablation Treatment

Immediately following a Varithena™ microfoam ablation, patients may notice swelling, bruising, and tenderness around their treated areas. This is normal and typically resolves on its own within a few days of treatment. Most patients are able to their normal daily activities after one to two days following their treatment. Most patients are able to start feeling and seeing the results of their Varithena™ microfoam ablation within three to six weeks of treatment, with ultimate results becoming apparent within three to six months.
